Trading Update and Review – 9/7/10

September 7, 2010

What I wrote on 9/1/10

Just a real quick update on the puts I bought Monday.

I’m still in them. I had some problems with my trading platform and should have dumped them before now but I’m currently near break-even and my indicators are not saying that the Q’s are going to break above this level so I’m going to stay in them for a little while and see what develops.

Here it is just one week after writing the above post.  It’s  a good time to review

Oh, shoot! and “Aaaragh!

August 31, 2010

I could have rebooted, checked my firewall, scanned for conflicts with the other software that was running, ran around yelling things like, “Oh, shoot!” and “Aaaragh!”. I could have and I did. And in the end…

Quick Update – 8/30/10

August 30, 2010

Here’s a quick update to today’s trading.  Just an FYI.

I started today by watching the futures, which were up greatly over the weekend.  When pre-market trading opened I was surprised to see that this was no longer the case.  Since not everyone gets the news at the same time I suspected that the market could go up before coming back down.  I watched using a 5-minute chart.  My technical indicators showed me the proper entry time and they will also point the time out, which hasn’t happened yet.  Below is the trade I entered.

587    08/30/10    10:14 AM    BTO        100918P45    QQQQ SEPT PUT 45    200    $1.42    ($28,400.00)    ($250.00)    ($28,650.00)                $294,477.50    14723.88%

Update:  3:10pm  I decided, against my general trade rules to keep this trade on until tomorrow morning.  Based on a daily chart my trade should be good until  the market opens tomorrow.  The put was worth $1.80 at the close which amounted to a 24%+ gain.

Quick Update – 8/26/10

August 26, 2010

Just a quick note about today’s trading.

I put a trade on just before the 11 o’clock hour and bailed at 3:00pm (ET).  Managed a good profit even if I wasn’t in the morning rush.  Since I bailed I noticed a marked effort to have the Dow ($DJI) close above the 10k level.  It may or may not happen but I got out at the right time and I’ll give credit to a 5 minute chart and momentum for the pointer.

Below is the trade start to finish from the TTAM Trade Book. (second trade since 8/20/10)

583    08/26/10    10:55 AM    BTO        100918P45    QQQQ SEPT PUT 45    200    $1.62    ($32,400.00)    ($250.00)    ($32,650.00)                $274,077.50    13703.88%

584    08/26/10    3:00 PM    STC        100918P45    QQQQ SEPT PUT 45    200    $1.95    $39,000.00    ($250.00)    $38,750.00    $6,100.00    18.81%        $312,827.50    15641.38%

Money In The Middle

“Money in the middle” is a phrase that doesn’t quite explain itself. It is a range and an indicator.

TRIX Indicator – A Financial Widgets Mainstay

August 20, 2010

The video below will help you understand a technical indicator that I employ on every trade I’ve ever done in the Trading To A Million (TTAM) portfolio.  Indicators tend to be rotated through one’s trading style.  Either because everyone starts using the same indicators and they become ineffective, or a indicator is best applied to a specific timeframe that doesn’t match the timeframe someone is currently trading.  That was a mouthful.

There are a few indicators that I’ve found to be useful for any type of trading and for any timeframe.  This is one of those indicators.  If you only could learn one indicator between now and Monday morning trading this should be it.
