Just Another Game of Three Card Monte – Campaign Finance Reform

Three Card Monte

Maybe you know about the game that street hustlers seem so fond of.  Three Card Monte is when there are three cards on the table and you bet that you can follow an individual card while the hustler shuffles them in front of you.  It is a game that is always skewed in favor of the hustler.  That’s why they call them hustlers.

If you know the con then you should know also know that often times the card you are suppose to follow isn’t always on the table, especially when you are trying to pick your card from the three presented to you after the shuffle.  That’s why it is known as a con.  Your convinced that you can do something that is really impossible to accomplish.

Three Card Monte – American Political Style

Campaign Finance Reform is being played like this.  The most vocal proponents are those that have the most to gain if it gets passed in its present form.  In our political system, that is the majority.

We, the American people deserve better.  When the game starts and the cards are being shuffled it is hard to track our card.  Most often the game is lost when our eyes and attention is diverted toward another during the shuffle.

I quote Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House; “…we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it,…“.   Are you satisfied with the Health Care Reform Bill?  Is the Financial Reform Bill going to benefit the American People?  Has any stimulus filtered down to Main Street, U.S.A.?

The Solution

How are we suppose to win at a game like this?  Full disclosure!  Total and utter disclosure.  It’s the only way.  This would be analogous to making the dealer, the government (all inclusive), shuffle the cards while they are turned up to show their face.  Anything else is a hustle.  Anything else is a con.

Three Card Monte is the game that came to mind when I read Ten Bailed Out Banks Spent $16.3M Lobbying in 1st Half 2010 and precisely what is now going on with Campaign Finance Reform. Don’t play the game. If we do…

We are the marks.
