One of Inhabitat’s favorite high-mileage vehicle is mine too.   They sure know how to find them, don’t they?  This is the Aptera’s competition.  Two different vehicles competing philosophies.  Which one would you prefer?

Memristor minds: The future of artificial intelligence – tech – 08 July 2009 – New Scientist

July 15, 2009

Keep your eyes on this one.  I believe this scientist has found the missing link of true artificial intelligence.  This could be as big as genomics.

Snider’s dream is of a field he calls "cortical computing" that harnesses the possibilities of memristors to mimic how the brain’s neurons interact. It’s an entirely new idea. "People confuse these kinds of networks with neural networks," says Williams. But neural networks – the previous best hope for creating an artificial brain – are software working on standard computing hardware. "What we’re aiming for is actually a change in architecture," he says.

IEEE Spectrum: Fast-Charging Lithium Batteries Disputed

July 15, 2009

This article is interesting not only because of the quote below but it talks about the fight/debate about commercializing new battery technology.  When investing in and for the future we’d like to have a crystal ball.  I consider articles like these as a crystal ball with negative energy.  Remember that it is important understand the negatives of an investment as well as the positive, the risks as well as the rewards.

That’s because the power consumption required to rapidly charge an EV battery would place a major strain on power grids. A five-minute charge on a 15-kilowatt-hour battery—the scale of energy storage required in a plug-in hybrid vehicle—would require a whopping 180 kW of power. That means supplying the power needed to pull in your Chevy Volt or plug-in Prius for a quick charge would be like adding an entire office building to the grid.
